Capta is a free macOS screen recorder that edits the recording for you. Record a demo of your app: it cuts the dead air, zooms in on what you click, captions your voice and lands every cut on the beat. You get a finished product video, no timeline required.

The automatic edit

You click around. Capta directs the camera.

While you record, Capta watches your clicks, typing and scrolling. When you stop, the edit exists.

  • Zooms on what you clicked. Capta reads the button or field under each click and glides in on it. When an app hides its widgets, Vision finds the dialog in the pixels.
  • Dead air out, typing sped up. Pauses go, typing and loading run at double speed with eased ramps. A minute of fumbling comes back as thirty seconds.
  • Cuts on the beat. Drop in a track and Capta reads its tempo on your Mac and lands each cut on the grid, with click sounds, whooshes and ducking.
  • A timeline you can grab. Drag a zoom to move it, its edge to stretch it, right-click to change its level or delete it. Every change is undoable.
Apple Intelligence

Talk. It listens, cuts and captions.

The Apple Intelligence models built into your Mac do the smart parts, and no byte of your recording leaves the machine.

  • Narrate. Turn the mic on and talk. Capta transcribes you on the Mac, burns in captions, keeps cuts away from your sentences and lowers the music under your voice.
  • Fix a word. Every line sits on the timeline and in the Sound tab. Click one, retype it, and the caption follows.
  • Hero moments and chapters. The on-device model reads what you did, gives the payoff click the strongest zoom and titles the chapters. One toggle.
  • Copy written for you. One click writes the title, the caption and a social post from what happened on screen. Capta never reads what you typed, only what you clicked.

A title up front, a link at the end.

Export writes the video once, in the size you asked for. Share turns it into a link in one click.

  • Title and end cards. Six designs, classic to terminal, in your accent colour, on your own background, previewed live before you export.
  • Any size. 16:9, vertical or square, up to 4K at 60 fps, as MP4 or GIF, or straight to the clipboard.
  • Share with a link. One click copies the export into your iCloud Drive and Apple's sharing sheet hands you a URL anyone can open.
  • Your look, everywhere. Gradients, mesh, patterns, solids, your desktop picture or the Mac's wallpapers, with padding, corners and shadow to taste.

Each setting applies as you change it. Export is the only render.

Smoothed, scaled, with click ripples. Arrow, hand, dot or hidden.

Pressed keys as chips that type out live. Off by default.
Music
Three built-in tracks, Creative Commons search with preview, a drag bar for the section that plays.

How it works

Three steps. One of them is optional.

Record

Press ⌥⌘R and show your product the way you would show a friend. Turn on Mic or Camera in the capture panel to narrate or appear in a corner. Pauses and fumbles come out in the edit.

Glance

The zooms, the pacing and the music are in place when you stop. Change the style, drag a zoom or fix a caption if you want to.

03

Export

One click writes the video in 4K, as a GIF or to the clipboard. One more copies it to iCloud Drive and gives you a link.

Capta is built by Gjorge Karakabakov, a senior software engineer in Skopje with more than ten years of shipping products. Every line of the app, the demo video on this page and the replies to support mail come from the same person.
